How to play Ghost Racer well
- You and a ghost type the same text, side by side.
- The ghost is a real recorded run, replayed keystroke by keystroke.
- Cross the line first to win and become the next ghost.
- A daily race gives everyone the same text.
Ghost Racer replays a real run rather than simulating an opponent. The ghost beside you is somebody's actual keystrokes with their actual timing, including the half-second they hesitated on a hard word and the burst where they found their rhythm. Racing that feels nothing like racing a number, because it is uneven in the specific way people are uneven.
The tactical layer is pacing. A ghost that starts fast is not necessarily beating you — it may be the run where they stumbled at the end. Learning to hold your own rhythm while somebody pulls ahead, rather than panicking into a mistake, is the skill the mode trains, and it transfers directly to any timed test.
Every run you finish is recorded and can become the ghost somebody else races. Beating a ghost puts yours in its place, which means the pool of opponents is made of real attempts rather than difficulty tiers, and the daily race gives everybody the same text so the comparison is exact.
When you want a measured score instead of a run, take the typing speed test. For technique rather than practice, read how to improve your typing speed.
